Jim C thinks these pictures of Hurricane Isabel (one which may or may not be) are cool and that you should see them. He's probably right, so I post the links for your viewing pleasure.
I think the "unverified pic" is a fake. Don't you think we'd see a bit more ocean activity if it were real? The sea, in that pic, is relatively calm.

1) The seas are not completely calm in the picture.
2) There is not much in the picture to provide a scale for the size of those waves.
3) The depth can have an effect on wave size, and we don't know what the depth is, or what the winds were in the picture.
4) I looked for obvious signs of tamering with the photo and didn't find any. Doesn't mean tampering didn't happen, but if it did, It was a halfway decent job.
