Spacing Out Jury Duty

I completely spaced out jury duty once. I was just laid off, so I'd had a lot on my mind. When I called up the courthouse the woman told me just to come in the next day.

I went in the next day and the clerk was all snooty. "If you'd come in yesterday you would have been dismissed. Today we have a trial." I told her "Great! I just lost my job and I'm looking for something to do anyhow." Pthhhhh.

The moral of this story is, keep your schadenfreude to yourself.

(This post inspired by Beth's Jury-related post on dreaming in denmark.)

This reminds me of something I've been wondering about for a long time. I have NEVER been called to jury duty. What's up with that! I did actually get a card once for Bristol County but I had long since moved out so I didn't have to go. That was like 12 years ago. Not that I'm complaining I'm just wondering what their methods are for choosing people is. Some people seem to be called every few years like clockwork.

also interesting to me - getting called for a different county. my best friend once got called for a county that would have required an hour drive... and she was living three blocks from the courthouse for her county at the time. eh? yeah. kinda makes you wonder (well, makes me wonder) about what logic is applied to the whole process. :)
