What Is It?

Can anyone guess what the thing pictured here is? I'll give you until next week to figure it out, or unitl someone gets it right. Make as many guesses as you wish. A larger image is on my fotolog.

[I have reconsidered the the "next week" bit. I will reveal the answer sometime tomorrow.]

Stuff on the road :-)

Posted by: Mr. Magoo at December 4, 2003 10:52 AM

Close, but no cigar. It's on a driveway.

But I'm more interested in what sort of stuff it is.

A carton of eggs.

I see a paper wrapper and a plastic wrapper. The red spots look like cherry pits. I don't know what the grey/yellow stuff is that's coming out of the plastic bag, and I can't tell what the pale stuff is that's splatted around it. My guess is that there was something that spoiled, and the whitish stuff is rotjuice.

Whatever it is, I can tell you what *sort* it is... unwanted. And icky!

Not eggs, but I love that guess. Nice analysis, Julie.

The reaosn it is unrecognizable is that it has been run over multiple times... But what could it be?

D'oh! That's what the gray papery stuff is! Thanks, Mike! And ewww.

Still don't know what the red spots are.

The white stuff looks a little like sour milk, or cottage cheese. But that doesn't really go with the packaging. There must have been multiple things in the bag.

The first thing I thought of, honestly, was that it looked like a bag from McDonald's that I saw in the street once (someone had run over the bag, causing the ketchup packet(s) to burst and squirt all over my car). I doubt that that's what it is, but at first I thought it was a burger with a lot of mustard, and the remains of a milkshake.

At first, I thought it was someone's lunch--itlooks like maybe a piece of cake in a plasic bag inside a paper lunch bag.

Then I took a closer look at the color of the bag and it looked like a mailing envelope. I deduce that this is a padded mailer, which explains the manilla envelope color as well as the grey matter--filler. When I was a librarian at Harvard, we sent and received books in these all the time, and some libraries forbid them because they can go *poof* and make a huge mess.

So. My guess? Someone ordered something that came in a quantity of multiples, hence the plastic bag, and was shipped in a padded mailer to keep them from being squashed. The grey stuff, having been run over and moistened by the elements, has turned whitish in spots.

As for the colored pips, well, that might be some of the ordered item that was accidentally left in the bag. Maybe it fell out of someone's bag and they didn't notice.

Again, some very good analysis.

I am reconsidering waiting until next week to reveal what it is. I will reveal the answer sometime tomorrow instead.

Oh, I know. It is the last remains of that cheery yellow smiley face of 1970's fame and all those Wal-Mart advertisements. 24 hours a day spent surrounded by insipid Wal-Mart greeters would drive anyone batty.

R.I.P. little guy.

I gotta go with Birthday cake, Alex, or fruit cake. Definitely a cake like thing. I think. Hell it looks like a bag of moldy clay that got run over.
