Gay Marriage Clarified

So, if you didn't hear that the Massachusetts SJC clarified their ruling, specifically stating that only gay marriage would satisfy the constitution, you must be outside of shouting range of any bigoted authoritarian homophobes.

Okay, perhaps that's being a little harsh.

I haven't heard anyone give me a reason I can respect that gay couples should not be allowed to marry. Most of the arguments seem to reduce to the offensive "well what's to stop people from marrying goats!"

You can cut the fear with a knife. If gays are given their rights... that's one fewer group we're allowed to openly hate.

The horror. The sheer horror.

I'm proud to live in Massachusetts. We take a beating for our unusually liberal population. But some things are just plain right and decent, whether they're popular or not.

Just think, in 50 years folks will look back with the same kind of puzzlement on anti-gay marriage rhetoric that we have when we hear anti-interracial marriage speeches from the 50s.

An interracial male couple were among the plaintiffs in the original case. :-)

I have this to say: He who does not learn from history is doomed to repeat it.

Separate but equal does not fly here. Remember, please, Plessy v. Ferguson, which gave rise to Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, KS.

First, Plessy v. Ferguson, 1892

And James, you're not being harsh. Part of the problem of the liberals in this country is that we always give the other guy the benefit of the doubt and worry about his feelings. It's during that time that we get steamrolled.

Screw 'em, I say. Why be nice to nasty, mean-spirited jerk-offs?
