I have been laid low by some throat infection. Swallowing is fire. The head is swooning.

So I am going back to bed, and will, perhaps blog more later. I’ll leave you with a few random things, though.

  • Firstly, I’ll be adopting an explicit comment guidelines document. Basically, it will let people know what to do if they don’t want their comments deleted. But even before that, I’m going to get more vigilant in deleting comments. Anonymous comments from people who can’t bother to spell 2 words in a row correct while gracing us with their hateful screed will tend to get deleted. Or used as entertainment.
  • Nextly, check out this poor fellow and his odd request to German welfare officials. (sent along by Patti.)
    • “He wanted them to pay for four trips to the brothel a month, eight porn films a month, plus condoms,” said court spokesman Peter Burgdorf. “He also wanted some sort of appliance for self-gratification to use when watching porn.”
  • Are you waiting for Episode III? How about slaking your Star Wars thirst with some fan-films. You know they’ll be better than Lucas’ offerings, don’t you?
  • Jeff Goldbloom is watching you poop. Some things defy explanation.
  • An indication that all the good books have already been written. All that’s left to talk about is the anus.
  • How many of you use syndication feeds? I’m just trying to get an idea. I’m moving towards some better support of feeds for my weblog (RSS and Atom), and I’m just curious. For those of you hwo don’t know what RSS, Atom or weblog syndication is, you probably wouldn’t care. But if you do want to know, look here.

OK, I’m going back to bed now.

* I don't know what RSS is, so I guess I don't care.

* Now that's what I call a welfare state!

* Good Books:
I'm currently reading "Comm Check" about the Shuttle Columbia disaster and the ensuing investigation. It is *VERY* interesting. I think the author's name is "Michael Cabbage", but I can't recall right now.

Next on my reading list are these two books:
Lost Christianities: The Battle for Scripture and the Faiths We Never Knew
Lost Scriptures: Books That Did Not Make It into the New Testament

The anal book link appears to be not working, btw...

Fixed. And now the Jeff Goldblum thing is visible, too.

One thing that might interest you regarding RSS, Chuck, is that I have added an RSS feed for comments. If you click htat link, you'll just see the XML code (or not, depending on your browser). If you were using a newsreader that handles syndication, this becomes a way to see the last 'n' comments on my weblog rather than simply the ones that appear on my main page.

Just another way to list and organize content, and another way to read it is all.

BTW... Sorry to hear that you are sick. I hope you feel better soon!

I'm on a strict diet of soup and lemon/honey/whiskey tea.

Toss in an occasional spray of phenol and some painkillers and you've got yourself a real party.

you sure know how to party. maybe you can get the german govt to pay for your whiskey too. get better

Most likely he'll blog this as well, but...

The whole time he was sick I was thinking "I'd rather have a sore throat than a stomach bug."

How about a stomach bug that you get at the same time as your daughter, and just as she's dehydrating and the doctor's office says to bring her into the hospital, your husband comes down with it too?

Yes, that was our miserable, miserable night last night. Everybody's still in bed except me, because my back hurts too much to lie down. I can barely see what I'm typing, I'm so dizzy, so I'll sign off...

Post-script -- I lost 6 pounds and my wedding ring keeps falling off my shrunken little hands!

Get well soon, all of you. :-)

Yikes! That sounds awful. Drink lots of fluid and try to get something into your system.

I had a baaad stomach bug a few weeks back that resulted in severe enough dehydration to trigger a painful attack of gout, my first ever. The doc recommended fluids and the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast) for 24 hours. It lasted 4 days and the doc also recommended trying to get more fiber into my system while I was suffering the bug.

They have some fiber supplements nowadays that are much less gross than Metamucil (so I'm told) if you want to try and up your fiber intake.

I'm so sorry to hear you're all suffering. I hope you make it through okay.

Funny sidenote to my story, the attack of gout lasted about 5 days, and since I can't take anti-inflammatory drugs (allergic to Aspirin), the doc recommended Colchicine (sp?) instead. What're the side effects of Colchicine? Upset stomach, nausea, and diarrhea... the same thing that had triggered the gout attack in the first place! Oy vey. I took the Colchicine for 24 hours before the side effects kicked in, and when they did, I flushed the meds down the toilet. No way I was going through that again!

So rest up, blog another day, get well, and don't get gout!!!

Hope you all feel better soon.
