Quoting Chuck in comment #171 of that infamous 12 reasons post:
As soon as the discussion leaves faith, progress can begin:
Person A: This is silly, why don’t we find a way to share this land?
Person B: Okay, let’s work it out.
To continue:
Person A: Hey! What’s that over there?
Person B: What? [looks]
Person A: Bang! [takes land]
I think this probably doesn't qualify as reaching a compromise or solution that doesn't involve one being oppressed by the other. ;)
Posted by: Chuck S. at March 11, 2004 3:12 PMIt's progress.
Posted by: James at March 11, 2004 3:15 PMI'm OK with oppression as long as I'm on the right side (that's a joke for those of you how cannot seem to tell humor from serious commentary).
Posted by: Bob at March 11, 2004 4:13 PMMaybe a special sort of formatting for sarcasm. Yeah, great idea.
Posted by: Maggie at March 11, 2004 4:53 PMOh, man, shoulda previewed. I had that last line all sarc'd, but the browser interpreted it as a meaningless tag and didn't show the tags. Let's try again.
<sarc>Nice post.</sarc>
Posted by: Maggie at March 11, 2004 4:55 PMGlad you are well enough to get out of bed. :-) (That was not sarcastic.)
Posted by: Julie at March 11, 2004 5:22 PMNo Julie you have to do it this way.
WARNING NOT SARCASM
Glad you are well enough to get out of bed. :-)
I second Julies message by the way (also not sarcasm).
Posted by: Bob at March 12, 2004 9:25 AMHmm... my post from this morning never showed. I must not have hit post. Doh!! Anyway hat I said was (as best I can remember, I'm sure it was much funnier originally).
No...no..no, Julie you have to do it this way!
WARNING. The following text is not sarcasm. It is a real honest statmentn of my feelings. This is my true opinion... honest... even if it sound ridiculous.
Glad you are well enough to get out of bed. :-)
There see now we know you're not kidding about hoping everyone feels better (I second Julie's statement by the way, for real...honestly...aw forget it)
Posted by: Bob at March 12, 2004 3:21 PMOh great now it shows up!!!
Posted by: at March 12, 2004 3:22 PMGah. That was me. Ok I'm giving up today. I can see that their are new posts on the main page but cannot see them when I go to the comments.
Posted by: Bob at March 12, 2004 4:52 PMGrr. and I also noticed that my sarc before and after the test didn't show. That's it I really quit now.
Posted by: Bob at March 12, 2004 4:56 PMBob, try ampersand-semicolon constructs, as in "<sarc>"... unless I'm mistaken it will show up as <sarc>. :-)
Posted by: Chuck S. at March 12, 2004 5:07 PMThe comments section accepts actual HTML, but filters unrecognized tags (some tags can mess up the page, so only a few are allowed, like the ones for bold, italics, blockquotes, links, etc.)
That's the first problem.
The second problem is that when you submit a comment, sometimes you have to reload the entry page to see your comment here. It depends a little bit on the server, and the browser you are using.
That's why peopel double-post sometimes. They think they haven't submitted their comment.
Try doing a reload on the page if you don't see your comment appearing.
