Some Ads

Some ads just don’t go with the story.

Maggie was reading a story on Yahoo News regarding new photos out of the Abu Ghraib prison and noticed this HP advertisement that jumps out at you a bit in this context. Better photos? Yikes.

In your snapshot of the HP ad, I noticed in the sidebar a story by Ted Rall, "An Army of Scum."

"We know about Abu Ghraib only because the inbred psychos who forced nude Iraqi men to pile up in pyramids were dumb enough to snap photographs as mementos of their time liberating the nation from Saddam. It's like the Rodney King video: cops beat up blacks every day, but there usually isn't a camera around."

Indeed. Read on: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/uclicktext/20040506/cm_ucru/anarmyofscum

Once when reading about the ValuJet disaster in the everglades on Yahoo News I noticed the sidebar featured ads for discount airfare. Oops. Apparently their page generation engine tries to match up ads topically with the news articles with disastrous results. I wrote to them at the time and told them how inappropriate this was. I never heard back and don't know if they changed anything.

The day after the shootings at Edgewater Technology, I received a job posting for them from Monster.com.

Pass.
