Relaxing Computer Activity

Julie sent along the following activity. I don’t know who wrote it, but it is attributed to a Toby Hale.

How to start your day with a positive attitude.

  1. Create a new folder on your computer.
  2. Name it “George W. Bush.”
  3. Send it to the trash.
  4. Empty the trash.
  5. Your computer will ask you: “Do you really want to get rid of
    George W. Bush”?
  6. Answer calmly, “Yes”, and press the mouse button firmly…

For what it’s worth, below is the actual (slightly less satisfying) dialog I get on Windows 2K Professional. You don’t get any window on MacOS X — it assumes you want to delete the thing if you’re putting it in the trash.

But it is a cute idea.

In the Finder prefs for Mac OS X you can turn on a warning before emptying the trash. However, even if the trash only contains 1 item you get a generic warning.

How satisfying!

Additionally, the dialog on Windows comes up when you drag something to the bin, not when you empty the trash.

I suspect the author is low on Geek cred, but I was still amused.

I have so much crap in my "recycle bin" I'm afraid to empty it anyway. :)
