Kerry's Retort

Kerry dope-slaps the Swift Boat Veterans for Bush, and our Coward-In-Chief himself.

“Thirty years ago, official Navy reports documented my service in Vietnam and awarded me the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts,” Kerry said in remarks to a firefighters convention.

“Thirty years ago, this was the plain truth. It still is. And I still carry the shrapnel in my leg from a wound in Vietnam.”

Kerry calls out Bush for using these people to do his dirty work. Cowardice is as cowardice does.

I enjoyed the "Bring it on" comment. As Scrooge said, "You use my words against me!"

Yep, that's right.

I wonder why he never gets stopped in the airport
metal detectors then.

Maybe they should find out why none of his boats had any bullet holes in them, or why all his Commading officers think he is a turd.

I haven't heard any "turd" quotes. Care to provide a reference? All the performance reviews of his that I've read were extremely positive. In between calling him an asset to the Navy and extremely capable, you'd think they would have found time to write "turd" in there. I think "turd" and "poo poo" are an accurate assessment of the quality of these attacks on Kerry.

I can certainly understand why the swift boat republicans don't like Kerry. They're republicans, funded by republicans, they didn't like him telling the truth when he came back from Nam (Tommy Franks has even said that Kerry's storied coincide with what we know about some things that happened over there).

I tell you truthfully, it's a good thing that I personally know people of strong integrity who serve in the military today. If I didn't, and I were to judge the military by the example of these vets, I'd be extremely discouraged about the honor, the strength of character and the honesty of our armed forces.

See, here is the beauty of how the Neo-cons work. They have us arguing over how much valor Kerry had while under fire and we have lost sight of the fact that his oposition avoided any combat whatsoever. Bush's military record is faked, Cheney didn't serve, Ashcroft lost to a dead guy (ok not related to military)

This is just more brilliant misdirection. And we eat it up.

How many people who were wounded in battle were actuall wounded while doing something heroic? Does it matter that maybe soldier a got his legs shot off when he squated for a crap? Not when you compare him to the guy who got his daddy to assign him to a cushy spot as far from the war as possible.

Kerry could have pulled strings, he was from a wealthy enough family, but he went in, and not as an officer either. He also vollunteered for a second tour of duty.

I say we really shouldn't dignify this misdirection. Kerry looks capable enough to defend his record.

Poo-poo head a 7.62 slug has no more metal than a button on a persons bluejeans. If the articles I have read were correct the boats did sustain damage.
I care about Kerry's service record just as much as I care about the lack of records on Bush.

Rather than waste even more time rehashing who did what ~40 years ago, let's talk about, oh, I don't know, lack of healthcare coverage, which would include Rx plans? How about unemployment (my 56-year-old brother has been out of work for nearly two year.)

I'd like to move away from the red herring debate over Vietnam and move towards substantive issues that affect me and my family, and millions of other Americans.
