Prospects shift as DiMasi takes over for Finneran (Boston.com)
The effort to bring a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage to voters in November 2006 suffered a major setback yesterday with departure of House Speaker Thomas M. Finneran and the elevation of Salvatore F. DiMasi, whose arrival is expected to shift the Massachusetts legislative agenda to the left on social issues such as gay rights, abortion, and stem cell research.
A shift to the left on social issues? Calendar says it’s September, but it feels like Christmas!

DiMasi is apparently an ally of Finneran's, but the word on the street is that he's no Finneran himself. I'm not that familiar with him. I guess we'll see what's what soon enough.
Posted by: James at September 28, 2004 5:29 PMFrom what little I know about Finneran he had become the type of politician who is above the office they hold. His personal power had to be reckoned with when trying to pass any issue, and for that reason alone I am glad he is gone.
