Ooh. For once, I think I know the movie. I'll confirm that in private, though, so other people can guess. But I think a sandwich is involved.

Posted by: Chuck S. at October 5, 2004 7:47 AMSorry being so abrupt. I just woke up like 30 seconds ago and I'm still at the "blinking" stage.
Terminator has a couple scenes in it where Linda Hamilton and her less-inhibited roommate (who is almost always listening to a walkman) both simultaneously stand in front of the same little mirror at the in their tiny apartment as they doll themselves up.
In a fairly typical movie contrast, the roomie is always dressed in something more flashy, and Linda always in something more plain.
It looks to me like there are two people in front of that mirror, one with the satiny purple robe, and the other in a plain linen nightgown. Further, on the vanity is an enourmous walkman and a cassette tape, so I'm thinking the movie either has a retro look, or is very old.
All these elements together suggest "Terminator" to me. Though I could be completely wrong. :-/
Posted by: Chuck S. at October 5, 2004 7:55 AMMy first thought was "Terminator" as well, except then I remembered two things.
1. I think the roommate was wearing red, not purple.
2. I don't think you ever see the roommate put a tape in the walkman, though she is always tapping on it.
But my memory could be playing tricks on me.
Posted by: David Grenier at October 5, 2004 8:54 AMSInce there is a consensus, I've thrown the next image up to see if it either confirms or contradicts the guesses.
I will tell you that Maggie got it right when she confirmed her guess in private.
Posted by: James at October 5, 2004 9:10 AMI have a pretty good memory for slinky lingerie... I'm pretty sure it *was* purple. But who knows?
Are you sure we never see her put a tape in? I thought in the very first scene with them both in it, we see that.
Posted by: Chuck S. at October 5, 2004 9:18 AMYeah, having seen the second image I'm convinced my initial guess is correct. James, I'm sorry if I ruined your contest by blurting out my guess.
Posted by: Chuck S. at October 5, 2004 9:21 AMThat does look like Linda H's hair.

I haven't yet seen the newest version but you never know what Lucas will add.
Posted by: Mike at October 5, 2004 9:46 AMChuck, I want people to guess. In this case, there is too much consensus for me to hold off with the answer. It is indeed "The Terminator."
I posted the second pic confirming that the girl does wear red later in the apartment. She also makes a sandwich in a later scene, as Maggie mentioned.
Seems like for such an iconic movie I have to go even more obscure to fool the eagle-eyes of my readers!
Posted by: James at October 5, 2004 9:47 AMMike: The secret's out in four words.
More Jabba nude scenes.
Posted by: James at October 5, 2004 9:49 AMI think I saw a Terminator movie, but I can't tell you which one (not my cup of tea).
I will say this: With all that hair, it's definitely a move from the '80s.
