Something different for the holiday season. 12 different images. 12 different movies/TV shows. Each of them having something to do in one way or another with the holiday season.
Your mission: figure out what movie or show you’re looking at. Bonus points: what it the significance of the scene, or what details can you add about the scene.
Since they’re all going up at once, make a sincere attempt to guess before checking the comments. It’ll be more fun that way. I expect no one will get this entire list without help or Googling. The final answer will likely be a collaboration among you, but try it on your own first for the most fun. Ho, ho ho, here you go!

OK, I'm apparently not very up on my Christmas movies. The only one I'm pretty sure of is the first. I think it''s an animated special called 'Twas the night before Christmas with a family of mouses saving the day. Other than that I recognize Patrick Stewarts head on number 5 but the only Christmas think I know of him being in is a version of A Christmas Carol and this looks too modern. And I think I remember hearing something about a squirrel in A National Lampoon Christmas but I've never seen it so that's just a guess for #7.
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at December 21, 2004 8:24 AMSorry just figureed out 4 It's The year without a Santa Claus. Don't kno how I missed it the 1st time.
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at December 21, 2004 8:25 AM#5--the Heat Miser/Cold Miser animated Christmas special
#9--Harry Potter movie no. 1
Posted by: Patti M. at December 21, 2004 8:39 AMHere's what I have
1. Twas the night before xmas (I wasn't sure but BOB's guess made me feel better about it
2. Grinch? Am I the only person who enjoyed this movie?
3. Could that be a baby Wookiee from the Star Wars Holiday Special? (I'm asking because I don't know.)
5. ST7: Generations
9. I didn't see that Santa movie with Billy Bob Thornton last year, but that's what this looks like.
I'm intrigued by #10 but can't place it. And I can't even make out what #4 is supposed to be.
Posted by: Julie at December 21, 2004 8:43 AMNice idea for a quiz. I recognized about half of them. The only one I know that hasn't been mentioned yet is #3, Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas.
Posted by: Mike at December 21, 2004 10:11 AM#5: Star Trek - Generations.
#7: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation?
#8: Harry Potter, first movie, I think? Not sure which.
#10: Monty Python's Meaning of Life (Christmas in Heaven segment)
I don't know any of the others. I'm sure I've seen the first one, but I don't remember the name of it... I'm not very good with kid movies or christmas films... generally I dislike holiday-themed movies. #6 has Pixar written all over it, but I don't know what it is. I can't tell what that is in the window... it's too small. Umm. Toy Story 2? Monsters Inc?
Posted by: Chuck S. at December 21, 2004 11:33 AMI counted wrong: No. 4 is the animated thing, not no. 5.
Posted by: Patti M. at December 21, 2004 11:57 AMI'm not ready to post the list yet, I'll do that tonight. Instead I'll jsut make a few comments.
1) Julie and Bob seem to have this one nailed.
2) Yes, Julie, you may be the only person who liked that film.
3) No comment. :-D
4) I haven't seen the name of this one appear yet.
5) I figured Julie and Chuck would get this.
6) If you know the movie, you know this is at the end of the movie because it's the only part of the movie with Christmas in it.
7) Yep - Christmas Vacation! It's a bit nipply in here.
8) Is Julie right or not?
9) Bad Santa is not any of the movies here. This is a kid-friendly film.
10) Only Chuck would ever get this.
11) Come on, people. He's Santa and he's drunk.
12) Julie has the best chance at this. There is no god.
#4: One of the Rudolph movies?
#5: Patrick Stewart keeps coming back to A Christmas Carol, doesn't he? That little girl in the scene is the daughter Picard never had.
#6: Ah, this is the end of the first Toy Story film just before they learned about the puppy. You were right, Chuck.
#8: Judging by James' comments, I'm guessing this is Harry Potter #2.
#11: Looks very 1980's. The building in the back reminds me of Trading Places for some reason.
Posted by: Mike at December 21, 2004 1:29 PM#6 --> Toy Story #1... blast... I really should have got that. Ah well. Good for you Mike!
Posted by: Chuck S. at December 21, 2004 2:27 PM1 is twas the night before xmas. (would you believe as soon as I saw the post the music from that show popped into my head?)
2 is the grinch
4 is year without a santa claus I believe.
5 looks like a star trek movie.
7 is National lampoons christmass vacation
8 looks like a harry potter movie.
10 looks like a version of the little drummer boy
11 is trading places.
I'm stumped on teh others... I feel like I should know #3 tho...
Anyway off to see what everyone else wrote...
Posted by: Jay at December 21, 2004 2:28 PMHey, I got number 4 in the second comment! (unless I got the name wreong but I don't think so)
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at December 21, 2004 2:29 PMHey, I got number 4 in the second comment! (unless I got the name wrong but I don't think so)
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at December 21, 2004 2:29 PMOh, I'm sorry Bob. You're right. I must be whacked this morning.
I posted the quiz at 4AM, so I am a little lightheaded this morning from lack of sleep.
Posted by: James at December 21, 2004 2:40 PMI'm stumped on #12. I'm not so good at pictures that appear within movies. Er, wait... how about the Tennenbaums?
Posted by: Julie at December 21, 2004 2:49 PMNow that #4's been identified, can someone tell me what that thing is supposed to be?? I think it looks like two midgets tied together. My coworker thinks it looks like a bird. I know he's more likely to be right, but I like my idea better. Thank you.
Posted by: Julie at December 21, 2004 4:30 PMIt's two elves on a reindeer. Vixen.
Posted by: James at December 21, 2004 4:46 PM#12 is a TV show.
Posted by: James at December 21, 2004 4:47 PMTV is even harder, because I often "watch" with my ears and not with my eyes. I feel like "there is no god" should be helpful, but it's been a long day and I'm a little slow.
I've "watched" the last two episodes each of Arrested Development, Boston Legal, and Desperate Housewives with my ears, so if that's a recent episode, it might be one of those. I'll guess Arrested Development, because I know it's the one you're most likely to have handy. :)
Posted by: Julie at December 21, 2004 5:06 PMI'm late to the party, but I knew 1,3,4,6,7, and 8.
11 looks like Trading Places to me.
Never saw the live action Grinch. Don't know any of the others that people haven't nailed yet.
Posted by: briwei at December 21, 2004 5:34 PMTrading Places is one of those movies that regularly elicits confounded "You haven't seen that yet?!" reactions when I spill the beans. I have no idea how I recognized it. Thirty six years of popular culture, I guess.
Posted by: Mike at December 21, 2004 6:53 PMI haven't seen it either. (I guess I just love to shock people.)
Posted by: Julie at December 22, 2004 9:06 AMNor have I. Seems to be more common than seeing it for this crowd.
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at December 22, 2004 9:29 AMI thought Trading Places was a TV show. I'm out of the loop, I guess.
I'm not a movie-goer. It has to be one hell of a movie to get me into a theater with people who talk, show up late, and are generally annoying.
I like to wait until the movie is just at the end of its run, so I'm in the theater with about 10 other people, and thus, a minimum of aggravation.
Posted by: Patti M. at December 22, 2004 9:38 AMYou're thinking of "Trading Spaces", the two-day home makeover series on TLC, featuring the perky and babely Paige Davis. (hubba hubba)
Thanks for this NTM Burkie... it must have taken a long time to do!
Posted by: Chuck S. at December 22, 2004 11:28 AMIt was somewhat time-consuming. The ones I had on video were the tougher ones to do.
I had to feed the video through my camcorder. It's got a function that allows me to take low-resolution digital photographs of whatever is coming in, so I used that and put the vidcaps on a memory stick. If it weren't for that, it would have taken me about 2 days to do instead of one night.
Posted by: James at December 22, 2004 12:33 PMSomeone help me find this movie. 80's or 90's comedy about a pool cleaner who gets pulled over by the cops. His cleaning chemicles are in the front seat so the cops think it's drugs. He has to go to driving school. He gets there and there are different types of people like an old lady who's gets drunk on Budwieser.
