Whee - and we’re off!

Rules are simple: These images are from a film. Guess at the film in the comments. As the day goes on I reveal more clues until I feel that the game is over. Read the comments or not depending on whether you want the help of others. But do comment if you think you’ve figured it out, and on what image it became clear to you!

Either "Full Metal Jacket" or "Platoon."
I place this war pic at a fairly recent time, judging by the shape of the helmet and the shape of the gun. By the look of the hot sun, I'm choosing Asia, and thus, my pick of a Vietnam war movie.
Posted by: Patti M. at February 15, 2005 8:26 AMHold the phone. I don't recall any barbed wire being used in Vietnam. If this is a WW II movie, they've fooled me with the helmet and gun.
Posted by: Patti M. at February 15, 2005 8:27 AMLooks even more modern than vietnam to me. I'd say Black Hawk Down.
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at February 15, 2005 8:49 AMHmm...that would fit with the hot sun.
Posted by: Patti M. at February 15, 2005 8:59 AMBeats me! Need more images.
Posted by: Chuck S. at February 15, 2005 9:17 AMImage 2 is up!
Posted by: James at February 15, 2005 9:36 AMHeaven and Earth? I like going with the first thing that pops into my head even if it is a movie I've never seen.
Posted by: Mike at February 15, 2005 9:37 AMNo idea. I think I've either not seen this movie of if I did it didn't leave much of an impression with me. Not really a war movie guy.
Posted by: Chuck S. at February 15, 2005 10:22 AMWhat the heck. I'll say Universal Soldier.
Posted by: Julie at February 15, 2005 10:27 AMPretty Woman?
Posted by: David Grenier at February 15, 2005 10:35 AMIf it isn't Black Hawk Down (which I haven't seen) I'll guess Courage Under Fire (which I have). I vaguely remember a knife fight in it but I saw it shortly after it hit video and I don't really remember it that well. (just a note- that might be the last good movie Meg Ryan was in!)
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at February 15, 2005 10:58 AMAt the risk of revealing too much, Richard Gere is not in this movie. I'm not saying anything about someone with the initials JR, though. That rules out Pretty Woman.
Image 3 is up!
Posted by: James at February 15, 2005 10:59 AMDamn! I think the tird image kills my 1st two guesses. I don't think I've seen this.
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at February 15, 2005 10:59 AMThe third image makes me think its not a war movie. The Anarchist Cookbook, by the way, has nothing to do with anarchism. I've also been told most of the things in it don't work, but I dunno.
The third image makes it look more like an action movie than a war movie, perhaps some action hero that is trying to infiltrate a military base or something.
Posted by: David Grenier at February 15, 2005 11:03 AMSomeone recently mentioned they liked "Against The Ropes" with Ms. Ryan. But I scarcely believed it.
Oh wait, it was David and he was talking about a different movie with the same name. Ha!
Posted by: James at February 15, 2005 11:06 AMOk, after seeing "The Anarchist's Cookbook," I have to take my hat out of the ring. I have absolutely no idea.
Posted by: Patti M. at February 15, 2005 11:26 AMImage 4. Hot, fresh, ready for you, my friend.
Posted by: James at February 15, 2005 12:04 PMI've no idea whatsoever.... :)
Posted by: Jay at February 15, 2005 12:06 PMThe donut looks familiar, but I'm still not sure.
Posted by: Julie at February 15, 2005 12:08 PMI dislike doughnuts (except the Nissan baked doughnuts once every 18 months or so), and I do not recognize this scene.
Posted by: Patti M. at February 15, 2005 12:24 PMThat last shot (#4) looks familiar. I can picture a scene with two motorcycle cops in the parking lot of a donut shop eating and drinking coffee and then they get a call and one of them drops his donut as they ride off.
So maybe I've seen this movie or maybe I just made that up in my own mind.
Posted by: David Grenier at February 15, 2005 1:06 PMAfter image 5 I'm still clueless.
(but what else is new for me :) )
Posted by: Jay at February 15, 2005 2:07 PMImage #5 is a giveaway. It's "Heidi 2: The Wrath of Fraulein Rottenmeier". Sent packing by her vengeful neighbor with only a nasty looking knife and a bizarre book of philosophy, Heidi journeys from Vietnam to the American suburbs in search of her lost donut.
Posted by: Mike L. at February 15, 2005 2:33 PMGah! These images REALLY aren't helping!
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at February 15, 2005 3:04 PMConAir with Nicholas Cage, Image 5. Thanks!
Posted by: Chuck S. at February 15, 2005 3:06 PMYeah, image 6 confirms it. "Why didn't you just put the bunny back in the box?"
Posted by: Chuck S. at February 15, 2005 3:13 PMWhat? Well, I didn't see "ConAir," and if this movie contains such stellar lines as Why didn't you just put the bunny back in the box?," I feel I haven't missed a thing.
Posted by: Patti M. at February 15, 2005 3:15 PMNever saw Con Air, but I'd like to rent a copy of Heidi 2.
Posted by: Julie at February 15, 2005 3:26 PMImage 7 is up! I'll put up 8 at 4:PM
Posted by: James at February 15, 2005 3:36 PMConAir does have some good lines in it, but that one is one of my faves. You can't really judge a movie by one line, but if you don't like typical American action flicks, then no, you won't like it.
But here's a couple other lines I liked:
1. Define irony: a bunch of idiots dancing around on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash.
2. It's not difficult to surmise Nathan's feelings towards killing these guards; and my own proclivities are well-known and often-lamented facts of penal lore.
3. Make a move and the bunny gets it.
Posted by: Chuck S. at February 15, 2005 3:41 PMHere's a tip: never ever do a Google search for "Heidi 2."
I did, and I found (oh lucky me) wallpaper, which, well, I naively assumed would be of the character Heidi.
Nope. "Sexy Russian Girls," it read, with women in various poses wearing what looked to me to be crinolines. Frankly, I could never wear something so itchy next to my bare skin, but hey, I'm thinking they weren't going for comfort.
Posted by: Patti M. at February 15, 2005 3:51 PMIt's Con Air.
Posted by: The Muffin Man at February 15, 2005 3:55 PMFunny -- I don't know any muffin man.
Posted by: James at February 15, 2005 4:06 PMThe Muffin Man is dead, Billy.
Posted by: Patti M. at February 15, 2005 4:16 PMI got ConAir, only to find out everyone else got it too.
Jeez, I haven't seen that since it was out in theaters. I might have to rent it.
Posted by: David Grenier at February 15, 2005 4:22 PMYep - it's ConAir.
I tried to pick meaningful images.
The first one is the Army Rangers, of whom Cameron Poe was a member.
The second is the knife the thugs used to threaten Poe. The removal of this knife is instrumental in Poe being convicted and sent to prison.
The third is a collection of books and papers found in a hiding place within Cyrus Grissom's cell -- evidence he was planning something. You can just make out the tail of a plane at the edge of one of the blueprints.
The fourth is not so much meaningful as it is an odd and memorable image. LVPD motorcycle police drop a doughnut to join the chase for Cyrus at the end of the film. It lands and sticks like that as they speed into the distance.
The fifth is the little girl that Garland Green (serial killer played by Steve Buscemi) has a tea party with. I had a feeling we couldn't get past this point without Chuck figuring it out. There's a lot of tension in that scene as you wonder if anything bad is going to happen to the girl.
The sixth scene is the bunny - Poe intends to give it to his daughter now that he's being released from prison.
The seventh one is Ramon, the crossdresser, after the crash, confronting the police.
The eighth is Cyrus (Malkovich) in the scene that makes Poe (Nicolas Cage) say:
"Put...the bunny...back...in the box."
But my favorite acting moment is when the DEA agent doesn't listen to Poe and ends up getting shot by Cyrus. As he falls, he looks up at Poe, who shakes his head in regret.
Thanks for playing, all.
Posted by: James at February 15, 2005 6:40 PMI'm the muffin man.
