Here’s this week’s Name That Movie! You know the rules: I reveal one image at a time throughout the day. You can post if you have a guess. Avoid the comments if you want to try to get it on your own. Here’s the first image:

Further clues will be posted as links, right here, as the day goes on!
Note: Since someone (Chuck!) already guessed the movie, I’m posting the rest of the images here, all at once. So, avoid the comments if you want to guess. You can play through the whole game at once.

Extra credit: What’s that video game in the first picture, and what console is it running on. It’s not Missile Command. Sufficient information is given in the movie to figure it out.
Posted by James at March 1, 2005 9:27 AMIsn't it amazing how many movies have these sorts of shots? James showed me the clips and I got in on #2, so I think he's re-ordering them. Sorry, guys, but if I get it on the second, it was too easy. :-P
Posted by: Maggie at March 1, 2005 10:51 AMIf I keep guessing War Games I'm going to be right eventually.
Posted by: Mike at March 1, 2005 10:55 AMJudging by the fine faux wood cabinet and the dials of this TV/monitor, I'm going for early '80s.
Mike, I feel the same as you. We're bound to hit it eventually, so I'm going with "War Games."
Posted by: Patti M. at March 1, 2005 11:18 AMWell I know what the video game is. Does that count? Missle command right?

Posted by: Chuck S. at March 1, 2005 11:30 AMSorry for the double post, James, my finger must have bounced.
Posted by: Chuck S. at March 1, 2005 11:31 AMHah.
Chuck's right I remember Viv playing missle command on the tour bus!
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at March 1, 2005 11:42 AMIt's not Missile Command, actually.
Posted by: James at March 1, 2005 12:35 PMRe: Image No. 2--Is that Harry Shearer?
Posted by: Patti M. at March 1, 2005 12:39 PMNo, that's some Japanese guy.
Posted by: James at March 1, 2005 12:40 PMLove the other pix. I was just talking about "Mime is money!" yesterday!
Posted by: Patti M. at March 1, 2005 12:42 PMI definately would have gotten it from image 3. Maybe 2.
It's not missile command? Is it the Intellivision knock off of missile command? I have no idea what the name was.
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at March 1, 2005 12:48 PMIt is a knock off of Missile Command, but it's not Intellivision. Viv and David both give clues in the dialogue.
Actually, if you look closely at the image you can see differences.
It will really impress me if someone figures this one out. Google might be needed.
Posted by: James at March 1, 2005 1:03 PMDammit, one I get quickly and of course it's already over.
Posted by: David Grenier at March 1, 2005 1:41 PMThat's a TRS-80 Color Computer game, isn't it?
I have no idea what it is. It looks like Missle Command.
Posted by: Chuck S. at March 1, 2005 1:55 PMNice, Chuck. I googled for Sinclair and TI 99/4a Missile Command clones to no avail but after you mentioned the TRS-80 I easily found the game: Polaris.
Who knew those tanks on the bottom are really submarines?
Actually I should have. David St. Hubbins specifically mentions "a submarine game" in the Spinal Tap script. game.
Posted by: Mike at March 1, 2005 2:12 PMGood job, Mike! It is, indeed, Polaris.
I had a TRS-80 when I was a young'un.
Chuck -- what told you TRS-80?
Mike is correct that submarines were mentioned by St. Hubbins. And you actually see the computer console in front of Viv.
Good work, all around!
Posted by: James at March 1, 2005 2:19 PMYeah. LAte to the party again. Definitely one I would have gotten. Took me until Elvis' grave though. "Too much f&*!ing perspective." :)
Posted by: briwei at March 1, 2005 2:33 PMOk, all they say about the game is Vv says he blew up "four or five galaxies" and David says that it's some kind of submarine game.
I just spent a fuck of a long time googling and trying to find any good histories of Missle Command that would talk about any knockoffs. Then I tried to find Submarine games with screenshots.
So after wasting half my day, I'm still stumped. The closest I can get is "Atlantis" which looks a bit like missle command, but doesn't look much like the screenshot from Spinal Tap.
Posted by: David Grenier at March 1, 2005 2:40 PMI guess it looked too cheesy to be an Atari or Nintendo. I dunno, that fat radioactive green border reminded me of old color computers rather than game consoles.
I never owned a TRS-80 color (mine was a Model 1 Level 2), but I had seen them before at school and friends houses. I knew it wasn't a Commodore 64, because C64 had better graphics.
I just had a feeling. That coupled with the fact that I know you owned a trash 80 color as a young boy... I figured that would make it significant enough for you to highlight it. Yes I metagamed a little.
