Poltergeist?

Posted by: Julie at April 19, 2005 9:25 AM

Poltergeist.

Posted by: Julie at April 19, 2005 10:50 AM

Poltergeist! "Poltergeist" Poltergeist...

ha ha ha

I'm not guessing. Just having fun with punctuation.

Posted by: Maggie at April 19, 2005 11:10 AM

I don't have sound on this machine. Nevertheless... Poltergeist.

Posted by: Julie at April 19, 2005 11:48 AM

I don't think there was an elephant in Poltergeist.

Posted by: James at April 19, 2005 11:54 AM

Hmm. First image isn't doing anything for me.

Second image... I've seen that doggie. Hrmmm. Poltergeist?

Sound file... the anthem? Oh that makes sense if it is Poltergeist... that's when the ghosts would talk through the TV Set, after the end of the broadcast day.

Posted by: Chuck S. at April 19, 2005 11:58 AM

OK - so the sound wasn't an elephant. Clue 4 is up.

:)

Posted by: James at April 19, 2005 12:07 PM

All right, you've got me. It's Wargames.

Posted by: Julie at April 19, 2005 12:20 PM

Maybe it's Dr. No.

Posted by: Julie at April 19, 2005 2:00 PM

Ever get the feeling that you're playing a game alone?

Wow, Bob and Patty go on vacation and I lose half my readership. Sobering.

Posted by: James at April 19, 2005 2:04 PM

I'm trying to keep the ball rolling. Where's Mike?? Is #5 the big chase scene from the finale of Smokey And The Bandit? I think it is.

Posted by: Julie at April 19, 2005 2:14 PM

Careful Maggie. Saying that three times in a row might make it appear.

Oh, I'm here much more often than when I actually have something to say. But this week's contest ended several hours ago.

Posted by: Mike at April 19, 2005 2:31 PM

You're very perceptive. I'm glad you've gotten off this Poltergeist kick, though. I have no idea where you got that goofy idea.

Posted by: James at April 19, 2005 2:32 PM

you're not playing alone, James.

some of us are lurkers who don't want to guess unless we know the answer (or at least something plausible as an answer). also, as it seems everyone here knows everyone else, I don't want to intrude.

but since i'm posting, let me say that my inability to come up with a good guess is due entirely to the fact that I keep wanting the man in the far right of clue #1 to be Peter Gallagher. but, alas, that isn't mr. eyebrows.

Posted by: jeremy at April 19, 2005 2:33 PM

Holy crap - you're right! It kinda does look like him. I'm sorry if that provided a source of distraction.

While a lot of my weblog readers do know each other, we do have a few commenters I've never met in person. And some of the frequent commenters have not met each other (well, until fairly recently).

That said, I think I'm getting ready to put the 7th and final clue up.

Posted by: James at April 19, 2005 2:48 PM

Oh - and actually I thought Julie was playing alone. ;)

Clue 7 is up.

Posted by: James at April 19, 2005 2:50 PM

I got nuthin'. None of it looks familiar.

Posted by: briwei at April 19, 2005 2:50 PM

Mr. Not Peter Gallagher is also a member of the elite group of actors who should run for governor. And oddly enough, he is!

Posted by: Mike at April 19, 2005 2:54 PM

It's Poltergeist, clearly.

Now that THAT is out of the way, since your NTMs generally generate anywhere from 15 to 40 comments, and mine typically generate about 6, I'd say you're doing pretty good in the participation area.

Posted by: Chuck S. at April 19, 2005 3:33 PM

Yeah, but half the posts are from me (in BOTH cases).

Maybe I just need to quit the caffeine.

Posted by: James at April 19, 2005 3:41 PM

Well, for those of you playing along, Julie got it on the first image. It's Poltergeist!

Congrats, Julie, on your movie knowledge prowess!

Posted by: James at April 19, 2005 5:31 PM

Well, my one-movie knowledge prowess.

Considering how sure I was, I probably should not have said anything so as to avoid ruining the party. But I wasn't completely sure at first. Then I noticed the strategically located smudge on the guy's union shirt, and remembered having noticed it before. After that, the whole scene came back to me.

Posted by: Julie at April 19, 2005 8:56 PM

Dammit. How come every time there's one I get on the 1st or 2nd picture I don't actually check your site until late in the evening?

Posted by: David Grenier at April 20, 2005 6:35 PM

I'm back. I've been locked away in the Cambridge Courthouse on a murder trial jury for the past two weeks with only my crappy modem at home to keep me up to date on email. I didn't bother with web because it was just too damn frustrating.

I wouldn't have had any input on this one anyway because I haven't seen Poltergeist.

Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at April 25, 2005 8:27 AM

I meant "vacation" metaphorically (OK, it was also a half guess.)

Jury duty, in my experience, is usually no vacation. While I have no compunction against doing my civic duty, it always gives me a headache to sit through trials. I'm not sure why.

Posted by: James at April 25, 2005 8:45 AM

Murder trial, eh? Can you talk about it yet? Enquiring minds want to know.

Posted by: briwei at April 25, 2005 11:14 AM

.

Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at April 25, 2005 1:57 PM

I can, we gave the verdict on Friday (actually reached it on Thursday but committed a faux pas which got each of us on the jury a chance to sit in the witness box and be questioned!). It's a long story. A summary of the story is old lady lives with paranoid schizophrenic, they get into an argument, he stabs her multiple times and tries to get away with it (using "insanity" defense). He didn't.

and James you're right. I've never been so tired as I was by the end of last week. Picture sitting through full day meetings every day, not being allowed to get up to go to the bathroom whenever you want and having to pay carefull attention to every word that's said for two straght weeks.

Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at April 25, 2005 2:04 PM

My frustration with the one jury I sat on was the stubborn and stupid people who were also on the jury. The kind of people who listen a lot and when they finally speak say "well I don't know..."

Argh! THINK something!! You have to think SOMETHING!!

Posted by: Maggie at April 25, 2005 2:32 PM

BTW, I was at a conference in DC sans computer access. I stayed on the campus of Gallaudet, the premier deaf college in the country. I sign, so I was pretty happy to be around so many deaf people.

That having been said, the campus isn't in a great section of the city. I'm glad to be back.

Posted by: Patti M. at April 25, 2005 3:46 PM

Apparently, I didn't know the correct meaning of "compunction."

A more appropriate word for my previous post would have been "aversion." Actually, something milder than aversion.

But I think you got the idea.

Bob, that sounds like a royal pain... having the trial extended by faux pas. Trials are trying enough.

Glad both of you are back closer to your comfort zone.
