As chronicled on BoingBoing, see 9or listen) to what happens when you steal the laptop of a professor at Berkeley.
“I’m not particularly concerned about the computer. But the thief, who thought he was only stealing an exam, is presently - we think - is probably still in possession of three kinds of data, any one of which can send this man, this young boy, actually, to federal prison. Not a good place for a young boy to be.”
This is a somewhat long missive regarding how to ask for technical help. Very good tips that apply to asking other sorts of questions as well.
On “Volume is not precision” for example:
“This is useful for at least three reasons. One: being seen to invest effort in simplifying the question makes it more likely that you’ll get an answer, Two: simplifying the question makes it more likely you’ll get a useful answer. Sadly, the lecture stops short of the actual section dissussed (I had to change my wording because it set off your filter, though I can't imagine why). I can't get the other links to work, either.
Upshot: at around forty-five seconds (again, I changed from numeric to alpha because the post wouldn't go through) on the original clip, he discusses the MOA of both caffein and a treatment for ED (this must be the word that set off the filter)--really interesting.
Couldn't get some of these videos to display. We Love Japan and the Prank didn't work for me. Other than that, a very enjoyable shotgun week. Particularly the Satchmo!
