92. Is that good?
(goes back to playing CounterStrike)

Posted by: Mike at May 10, 2005 9:59 PM87 for me.
Posted by: briwei at May 11, 2005 1:41 AM92 here
Posted by: Chuck S. at May 11, 2005 3:10 AM37 do I win or lose? I'm guessing no one that visists this blog will be lower.
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at May 11, 2005 8:11 AMI scored a 43. Good lord, I'm nerdier than my husband, which I suspected. I'm kind of proud!
"What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:
"Somewhat nerdy. I mean face it, you are nerdier than about half the test takers."
Posted by: Patti M. at May 11, 2005 8:48 AMSpeaking of statistics...
This morning at breakfast, I said to Will "Do you know that half the people that you meet are dumber than you?"
He's learning percentages and all that in math now, so he thought for about 2 seconds, and then said "Wow, yea, you're right!"
How did you arrive at the 50% mark?
Posted by: James at May 11, 2005 9:46 AMBTW - I always thought I was pretty smart, but since I've chosen to hang around with a lot of smart people, I feel stupid a good chunk of the time. ANd i feel like I'm getting stupider, not smarter.
Isn't that special?
Posted by: James at May 11, 2005 9:48 AMOK let's not confuse nerdiness with smartness now James. I've known a lot of idiotic nerds in my day. And plenty of smart people who I wouldn't consider nerds.
As far as the 50% number goes I suspect that it's much much higher. My feeling is that the vast majority of people in the world are complete morons. OK maybe not morons but let's just say not the brightest bulbs on the tree.
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at May 11, 2005 10:40 AM74.
It's higher than I would've guessed...
Oh, there is no danger whatsoever of me confusing the two.
Posted by: James at May 11, 2005 11:59 AMTo B.O.B.'s point, I'm not sure if it's that these people are dumb so much as they are willfully ingnorant.
Getting one's b"news" exclusively from FOX shows that one is willfully ignorant as one is likely to hear only the opinion one already has and will not yhave one's world view challenged by anything new.
Posted by: Patti M. at May 11, 2005 12:12 PMNope, they're dumb.
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at May 11, 2005 12:18 PMThis is why I love my husband. He's to the point.
Posted by: Patti M. at May 11, 2005 12:27 PMRegarding the question about "Do you know your IP address": Most people don't have static IP addresses anymore, so I was forced to say "no."
The mere fact that I know that should count for something, as should the fact that I do know where to find my IP address.
Posted by: Patti M. at May 11, 2005 1:43 PMI answered "no" because I don't have it memorized. Even non-static IP addresses are usually stable for a while. A month or three, even longer.
I do know my IP on the local network at home, so I probably could have said "yes", and I know my IP at work.
So, take the results with a grain of salt.
Also, this test is not fit to judge anyone over 80%. There were no real hardcore nerd questions.
Posted by: James at May 11, 2005 1:54 PMI got a 51... obviously, I'm not being creative enough with canned air.
Posted by: Julie at May 11, 2005 3:20 PMI would've liked to see a question like have you seen x or more of the following movies: Logan's Run, Tron, War Games, Sneakers, D.A.R.Y.L., Hackers, 2001, etc., etc.
Posted by: Sharon at May 11, 2005 4:27 PMWhat, you want to rocket my friends into the 100+ Nerd God category?
We are definitely movie nerds. I don't know if that means we are movie geeks, but we are certainly "schlocky-movie geeks" and "nerdy-movie geeks."
Posted by: James at May 11, 2005 4:59 PMAre you saying it's nerdy to have three copies of Logan's Run? Come on, they're three different editions, for Pete's sake! Same with my three copies of the novel! I mean, I've only got ONE copy of the comic books, and only ONE copy of the TV series... I'm not a MANIAC...
Posted by: Julie at May 11, 2005 5:16 PMYou may be a nerd if you can quote verbatim from a few dozen science fiction films on command. Not that anyone has ever commanded you to do this, of course, but you never know when the occasion may suddenly present itself.
The ultimate nerd fantasy would be ascending to the pearly gates and watching Saint Peter refuse entry to anyone who can't imitate Twiki.
Posted by: Mike at May 11, 2005 7:48 PMLOL! Thank goodness I could pass that one. Of course, that means Bill Gates might be allowed into heaven...
Posted by: briwei at May 11, 2005 8:13 PMDoes Mike paint a nightmarish scenario, or the geek version of "Left Behind?"
WE REPORT, YOU DECIDE!!!!
Posted by: James at May 12, 2005 1:35 AMWhat kind of nerd and/or geek am I because I can quote Firesign Theater (as can Brian)?
Answer: a special nerd and/or geek.
Posted by: Patti M. at May 12, 2005 10:34 AM"special" is one word for it. Of course I've got some Monty Python lines embedded in me (and some Firesign theater but those are your fault)
Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at May 12, 2005 11:16 AMDon't fight it, B.O.B. Come to the dark side. After all, your car is screaming "Wash me!"
Posted by: briwei at May 12, 2005 11:44 AMYou broke the president!
