Name That Movie 37

Instructions: see the clues, one by one. Guess what movie they are from. Comment. (Or for a bigger challenge, avoid the comments) Repeat.

On the day I post the images, I post them one at a time, with a delay in between. It’s for suspense and it gives the users a chance to play along with each other in the comments. If all the clues are already posted, then play at your own pace. Look for the answer in the comments.

WAG: The Professional, right before the snipers blow apart the apartment?

Posted by: Pat at May 17, 2005 9:14 AM

That looks like No. 10 Downing Street. I'm going to guess "The Name of the Father," a fine movie featuring everyone's favorite terrorists, the IRA.

Posted by: Patti M. at May 17, 2005 9:45 AM

is this where k-k-k-ken, k-k-k-kills the dog?

Posted by: David Grenier at May 17, 2005 9:47 AM

That's not K...K...Ken is it?

Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at May 17, 2005 9:49 AM

Looks like one of those Tom Clancy movies starring Harrison Ford. "Clear and Present Danger"?

Posted by: Mike at May 17, 2005 9:55 AM

I was torn between "The Name of the Father" and "Patriot Games," which is based on the Tom Clancy novel that also features the IRA.

I've got a theme going here, see?

Posted by: Patti M. at May 17, 2005 9:59 AM

Freeze, gopher! No, wait, wrong movie.

Posted by: Bob McCown at May 17, 2005 10:05 AM

my initial thought was Clear and Present Danger as well.
hmmm, I guess we'll see.

Posted by: jeremy at May 17, 2005 10:25 AM

Another guess: Ronin.

Posted by: Mike at May 17, 2005 10:56 AM

Okay, image 1, looks vaguely familiar. Not enough for me to get it though.

Image 2, looks like a car crashing on a European street. WAG: Bourne Identity? WAG: Fish Called Wanda?

Image 3, handbag with a camera or a gun mounted in it? Hmph. Beats me. Only time I remember seeing a bag with a camera in it is in The Mask... and this ain't The Mask. WAG: The Saint?

More pictures please.

Posted by: Chuck S. at May 17, 2005 11:03 AM

I've seen that camera bag fairly recently but I can't remember the thriller. Femme Fetale, maybe.

Posted by: Mike at May 17, 2005 11:06 AM

If I've seen this, I don't remember these images, but it looks like it takes place in the U.K. I don't think it is a Bond flick, in spite of the purse camera. Not even a WAG, though.

Posted by: briwei at May 17, 2005 11:20 AM

Image 4: I got nothing. The meal also looks European to me. I think I'll stick with "Fish Called Wanda" for now.

Posted by: Chuck S. at May 17, 2005 11:28 AM

That gun-in-a-bag bag is not from any movie I've seen, so that rules out my two previous guesses.

Damn and blast!

Posted by: Patti M. at May 17, 2005 11:57 AM

Image 5 is clearly a Drow with a hand crossbow. This must be the Dungeons and Dragons movie.

Posted by: briwei at May 17, 2005 12:43 PM

OK I still think it's my first guess even though all of the images since then were not familiar. This is where K...K...Ken tries to drop that box on the old lady and drops it on one of her dogs right?

Posted by: B.O.B.(bob) at May 17, 2005 1:34 PM

I think B.O.B. is right. I recognize the box image even though I don't recognize any of the others.

Posted by: briwei at May 17, 2005 1:38 PM

Image 5: guy with crossbow. Nothing registers.

Image 6: doofy pants. This reminds me of Fish Called Wanda.

Image 7: Okay this has got to be Fish Called Wanda... there's a poodle under that block isn't there?

Posted by: Chuck S. at May 17, 2005 1:51 PM

Yep, FCW.

Posted by: Patti M. at May 17, 2005 2:18 PM

6 is when the guy (Kevin Kline?) gets stuck in the concrete at the end of the movie.

Posted by: Pat at May 17, 2005 2:35 PM

GLad you mentioned that, Pat. FOr a minute there, I thought no one remembered that scene.

This is, indeed "A Fish Called Wanda" and I'll be really surprised if any of the people who read this blog have not seen this film.

Speaking of surprised, I'm surprised and impressed at the guess-leaders David and BOB ahead of the pack on the first image. I DID NOT expect that. At all.

And I thought the game was completely up with your comments but it seems like there was at least some confusion with the other folks. I thought this was one of the more balanced series of photos from a film. Except for the food, the photos are all somewhat memorable (or important).

Good guessing all around. I hope you had fun, and thank you for playing.

Posted by: James at May 17, 2005 3:28 PM

I knew, as soon as I typed that I had never seen this movie, that I was making a mistake.

Wow, James, way to pick the pix! You kept me guessing!

Posted by: Patti M. at May 17, 2005 3:39 PM

Never seen the whole thing, just bits and pieces. Couldn't get into it, for some reason.

Posted by: Julie at May 17, 2005 3:57 PM

Hmmm, I was going to say Patriot Games, but the last picture makes me think A Fish Named Wanda. I'm also sure I'm completely wrong. In fact, I'm so confident in my incorrectness, I'm even providing a money back guarantee. Wait, I'm not selling anything.....nevermind.

Posted by: Catie at May 17, 2005 8:23 PM

It's purely a timing thing, James. Normally I work until about midnight or so, watch a movie until 2am, get up around 10:30 am and start checking blogs closer to noon.

I just happened to be up early the other day because I'm sick and have been chugging nyquil and sleeping as much as possible to try to get better before my next wedding (cuz shooting a wedding while sick is a pretty miserable experience). So I have this wierd sleep for six hours, be awake for an hour thing going on.
