My father brought my siblings and I to see Good Morning Vietnam. Even then I knew that a R-rated movie is no place for an 8 year old. my best guess at a 'reason' is that my father served in Vietnam during 'the clean-up'; and perhaps he wanted to share some portion of that horror with us. He always had an *odd* parenting style.
I don't think any parent with a tot could use that excuse for Star Wars.
