Gender Genie

Test a hunk of prose out with the Gender Genie!

Can it tell whether the author is male or female?

You tell me. Here are the tests I’ve performed:

  • Aces Full of Links: Male (James)
  • Pandora’s Tea Room: Female (Maggie)
  • Sox Win!: Male (Ryan)
  • Unbecoming Levity: Male (Chuck)
  • HMS Impossible: Male (Thirdmate)
  • AbsolutSara: Female (Sara)
  • Tatooine Moisture Farmer: Male (J. Sandstormer) J never identifies his/her gender, so we can’t verify this.
  • It’s a Bri Wise World: Male (Brian)
  • dreaming in denmark: Male (Beth) Bzzt- wrong!
  • Vowel Movement: Male (Bob)
  • Corridor of Uncertainty: Male (Sarah) Bzzt - wrong!

If I am not mistaken, it has more trouble identifying women than men.

Test your own text and report the results. It prefers passages over 500 words.

I pasted something I wrote and it identified me as a male.

It's a fair cop. Although many are thrown off by the lace sleeves and ponytail. Oh, it's about the text.
