C’mon people, email me your summer mixes!
Sadly, I’m still arranging mine. I blame the wet weather. If 70-plus minutes of music seemed too daunting, then go with four or five songs. I want to know what music is making you feel summer is coming this year.
I have only one official submission, and I am delaying posting anything until I have put my list together. So there is still time!
So send me a short list of songs that you’ll be listening to while you enjoy the summer. It’s fun, and the RIAA can’t bust you (i.e. me) for just listing song titles.

not a real mix tape kinda guy. Rarely listen to single songs by an artist unless I'm listening to the radio. More of an album kind of guy. So in an effort to meet you half way.
Cygnus X-1 - ~10 minutes
Hemispheres - Rush - ~20 minutes
2112 - Rush - ~ 20 minutes
La Villa Strangiato - Rush - ~15 minutes
Xanadu - Rush ~ 10 minutes
There I'm done!
Posted by: B.O.B. (bob) at June 5, 2006 8:11 AMI haven't done a mix in ages. I stick 6 CDs that I like into the CD player, and call it a day. (Actually I call it a month or two. I'm too lazy to change the CDs more frequently.)
Posted by: Julie at June 5, 2006 9:11 AMtwo words:
ipod shuffle.
I am a very lazy music listener, as you know. I thought I didn't have any "summer music," but there are two albums: Gettysburg soundtrack, and the Tarzan soundtrack (Phil Collins).
(ipod shuffle genius: you still need to pick the songs.)
Posted by: Maggie at June 5, 2006 11:12 AMI like bob's list except that Xanadu has to be the version from Exit Stage left AND preceded by Broon's Bane and The Trees. :)
And it never hurts to throw in the Moving Pictures album.
The hard part for me about this assignment is that I have all my music on my laptop and just hit "random" and let the random number generator take me where it wants to go...

Posted by: Hooligan at June 5, 2006 12:39 PMMaybe people jsut don't do these lists anymore.
I definitely have different music I feel like listening to in the summer. Maybe that's not universal. Of coure, I haven't put my list together, so... I'm dragging my feet as well. Need more sunny weather.
Posted by: James at June 5, 2006 12:50 PMI don't really seem to have different seasonal preferences (well excluding Christmas). Volume yes. tend to be louder as the car windows come down. I'm sure the people next to me at the stop light on the way home friday appretiated my rendition of Joe Jackson's Friday.
Posted by: B.O.B. (bob) at June 5, 2006 2:05 PMBetter to be caught singing, which is acceptable, than arguing and swearing at the news. People tend to think you're yelling at them, and it's awkward when you catch up to eachother at the light.
Posted by: Patti M. at June 5, 2006 2:11 PMWow, I haven't done a summer music list in ages. Off the top of my head I'd definately include:
Marc Broussard "Home"
KT Tunstall "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree"
Hmmm... I'll give it a think and get back to you, since suddenly I am thinking "what a great idea!"
Posted by: Leslie at June 6, 2006 5:12 PMIt's a good way to find out what music has your friends excited.
Posted by: James at June 6, 2006 5:15 PMI'm not really sure I do seasonal mixes, mostly they're songs I'm listening to a lot at the time, or songs that seem to go together. This is a list with no apparent organization or theme, except that they make me happy and because summer reminds me of roadtrips, it's music I enjoy driving to:
Queen, "Bohemian Rhapsody"
Green Day, "She"
Franz Ferdinand, "Take Me Out"
My Chemical Romance, "Give 'Em Hell, Kid"
Ok Go, "A Million Ways"
David Bowie, "Dead Man Walking"
Queen, "Don't Stop Me Now"
The Beatles, "All My Loving"
David Bowie, "Cracked Actor"
Cyndi Lauper, "When You Were Mine"
The Beatles, "Here Comes the Sun"
The Beatles, "You Never Give Me Your Money"
The Cure, "Just Like Heaven"
David Bowie, "Strangers When We Meet"
Arcade Fire, "Old Flame"
David Bowie, "Reality"
The Cure, "Friday, I'm In Love"
Green Day, "When I Come Around"
My Chemical Romance, "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)"
David Bowie, "Never Get Old"
Green Day, "Sassafras Roots"
Duran Duran, "Notorious"
Simon and Garfunkel, "America"
They Might Be Giants, "Birdhouse in Your Soul"
My Chemical Romance, "Helena"
Nine Inch Nails, "The Perfect Drug"
The Beatles, "Drive My Car"
Ok Go, "Get Over It"
Duran Duran, "Hungry Like the Wolf"
David Bowie, "Rebel Rebel"
T. Rex, "Get It On (Bang a Gong)"
David Bowie, "Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)"
The Beatles, "Day Tripper"
David Bowie, "Breaking Glass"
Duran Duran, "Want You More!"
Ok Go, "A Good Idea at the Time"
Duran Duran, "Bedroom Toys"
My Chemical Romance, "I Never Told You What I Do For a Living"
The Beatles, "Can't Buy My Love"
Green Day, "Basketcase"
Placebo, "You Don't Care About Us"
The Beatles, "Oh! Darling"
My Chemical Romance, "You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison"
And I think I'm well over the time limit here... :)
