In Nuremberg, organisers revealed 70,000 England fans who flooded the city drank 1.2MILLION pints of beer - an average of 17 pints each.
Astonished bar keeper Herrmann Murr said: “Never have I seen so many drink so much in such little time.”
It boggles the mind that the entire country might be drunk dry. And the fact that it’s Germany is even more mind-boggling. I don’t expect they’ll import Budweiser any time soon to try to make up the difference.
Posted by James at June 28, 2006 12:26 PMPerhaps they will import SCHLITZ!!
Posted by: Julie at June 28, 2006 12:39 PMActually Bud is the offical beer of the World Cup (god knows why) so there should be plenty of it around.
I love that the Germans are making it sound like it's just the Brits that are drinking all the beer. Their assumption of 1200000 pints / 70000 fans assumes NO ONE in a German City of 500000 hosting a world cup match drank any beer. Lets assume half of the city consumed some beer during the same period and all of the Brits did. Thats less than 4 pints each. Hardly a lot considering the event. In fact it sounds to me like someone screwed up and didn't order enough.
just another example of making math work for you.

And what they're likely to do afterwards.
Posted by: James at June 28, 2006 1:52 PMI knocked over a beer last night while installing my air conditioner. Polly eagerly started feasting on it. I had my hands full of air conditioner and wasn't able to do anything about it right away. Putting it down meant getting my fingers squished, and I only wanted to squish them once.
I thought for sure she would be sick (she did not fare well after a similar incident with a Guinness a few years ago), but she was fine. And now a large area of my already-gross carpet is covered in a thick layer of baking soda to dry it up and destink it. (Dunno if it'll help, but it can't hurt.)
Sorry for the hindleg. I was thinking about "what they're likely to do afterwards." Maybe not what you had in mind, but Polly isn't a brawler.
Schlitz: safe for dogs!

Posted by: James at June 28, 2006 2:32 PMBut where are the Irish? Are they being lumped in with the Brits?
