House or Bertie?

House or Bertie?

Slight difference in the characters, if you’re familiar with PG

Wodehouse’s work.

If you’re not, then go read some. He’s not as… well, smart as House.

But a heckuvalot friendlier.

All House needs is jeeves to whip him into shape!

I'm sorry, but I think the House character is just too rude and uncivilized. That's not attractive! Why on earth are people so taken with him?

People often like characters in fiction that they wouldn't necessarily like in real life. I don't watch "House" but he's got a lot in common with Sherlock Holmes, who was pretty rude at times. But he is certainly interesting. I am a big fan of Holmes.

In addition, people may feel like they have to deal with foolishness politely in real life, and they find it relaxing to watch someone who doesn't feel those restrictions. It's like an outlet.

Not to everyone, of course. But that's my attempt at answering your question! :)

Well, I actually like the stupid show, I just find the House character becoming more and more off-putting. It's one thing to be superior and dismissive, but he crosses over into rude and downright cruel - not at all a positive example. If you do ever look at the show, I think you'll find the Wilson character is a far more likeable human being.

I didn't know people actually watched House MD. The show is a running joke between my buddy and I, even though neither of us have ever seen it. Mostly we think the name is really stupid.

I suppose Wilson is more likeable, but since these aren't real life people that I have to deal with, what I'm looking for is a character who's *entertaining.*

Sure Wilson's more likeable. If you like people who cheat on their wife and roll joints for their patients that is. Cutty is probably the only remotely normal character and is probably everyone's least favorite. All the characters on House are deeply flawed. It's actually what the show is about. the medical aspect of the show is fun but extremely formulaic. The show is all about the characters.

Oh, B.O.B., I just like Wilson for his pretty face.

I'm asking myself now who's the most "likeable" of the bunch, and I'm thinking, actually, I'm not crazy about any of them as people I'd like to know socially. Or to have as my own doctor (since House is apparently the only one of the bunch who knows what he's doing and his bedside manner is terrible).

I'll tell you, though, that I liked it better when Sela Ward was on. Her scenes gave me a chance to multitask during the show - make phone calls, see what's on another channel, get a snack, go to the bathroom, etc.

Ha, I agree about Sela Ward. Couldn't stand when she was on. Cameron is probabaly the most socially acceptable one. All that nice all the time would get on my nerves though (never mind the occasional recreational drug use).
