A proposed constitutional ban on same-sex marriage was defeated today by a joint session of the Legislature by a vote of 45 to 151, eliminating any chance of getting it on the ballot in November 2008. At least 50 votes were needed to advance the measure.Legislators vote to defeat same-sex marriage ban - Local News Updates - The Boston Globe
Looks like we’re not going to have the “opportunity” to vote a class of citizens out of their rights.

I love the nonsensical sour grapes statement made by Chris Mineau of the Massachusetts Family Institue (I love these hard-to-discern pressure group names that sound like they're helpful but are usually the opposite of what they seem):

Kris Mineau, president of the Massachusetts Family Institute that backed the amendment, pledged to continue fighting, but wouldn't commit to presenting another proposed amendment.
"I don't believe it's dead because the people have not had the opportunity to have their vote," Mineau told the Associated Press. "This will not go away until the citizens have their opportunity to decide what the definition of marriage is."

No, honey, you just won't have an opportunity to enshrine in the constitution the blatant hatred of and discrimination against gays.
Oh if only he would spontaneously combust. There's a good slang Italian word for that: schiata (phonetic spelling). It means to burst, like an overinflated frog's sack.
A person (like Chris Mineau) becomes so agitated and unable to vent--stuttering in his speech and frothing--that he will schiata.
One hopes.
