World Series Game 1 - Shock and Awe

It's important to remember that Boston had every advantage on their side in this game 1 of the World Championship Series.

However, even with the excuses of home field advantage, a stalling 8 day cool-down for Colorado, Josh Beckett's relentless arm, and whatever else you can think of, it has to be dispiriting to see a 5th inning like last night. Over half an hour long and full of woe for Colorado.

To see Julio Lugo get on base 4 times (Beckett had nothing to do with that) when he was the least of your Red Sox worries would give me a hangover if I were a Rockies fan.

But getting cocky at this point would be a mistake. We broke the record for the winning lead in a Game 1 of the World Series. But the other two teams that held the previous record both went on to lose their respective series. It's just game 1. And, no matter what happens tonight, the Sox'll be in Colorado on Saturday.

The Indians can tell you. Don't drink your champagne early!

Not to mention the fact that we lose the DH in Colorado. Which bat do we take out? If we put Papi at first, where does Youklis go? I hate to say tonight is a must win, but it's a pretty important game.

I would strongly counsel against putting someone with a torn meniscus at first base where he would have to stand for hours. That would aggravate his already injured knee and could kill him for the rest of the series.

Papi comes out, I'm guessing. He's been doing great for an injured guy, he's been bringing guys home, honestly, but he's not the bright spot lately in the batting lineup.

The team is hardly riding on Ortiz, which is why I'm not so worried about losing the DH. So Papi gets some rest for possible game 6?

What you guys aren't down with putting Papi at 1st Youk at 3rd or RF and Lowell at 3rd or SS as some people are suggesting on WEEI?

Bri, I be that makes you wish you could still listen to them eh.

I vote Papi plays CF or maybe catches.

Actually he sits. I don't see how you can take Youkliss out right now. maybe he plays one game and Youk moves to 3rd for that one.

B.O.B. I do miss WEEI, but we have our own morons out here. And it is kind of fun to hear them all hatin' on Boston because of the sports success of late.

My guess: Big Papi on 1st and Youk in RF.

I'm worried about the altitude in Denver.

Colorado must continue to lose as penance for those hideous uniforms.

They seem to have switched up the uniforms for something pinstriped.
