Pimms and Gin and Stuff

I don't get out of the house much for socializing, which is good for the pocketbook but not always good for the soul. And with kids and babysitting, plans are always in flux. But Maggie and I were able to sneak out and meet BOB and Patti and Bull for a meal at the B-Side Lounge in Cambridge before school started for the girls.

I hear that the B-Side is closing its doors, which is a shame because they had an amazing menu of cocktails (which, had I had my wits about me, I'd have photographed it for the recipes).

I had two drinks that evening. The first was much like a cough remedy I'd made before at home, but their version was actually drinkable. A "Bee Hive" I think it was called. Whiskey, honey liqueur, and lemon juice. Not bad!

The second was delicious. I can't recall the name, but it had some sort of gin, Pimm's No.1, lemon juice and sugar. I will definitely be attempting to make this cocktail.

Maggie and I walked back to the parking garage with Bull in tow and found that we were trapped; we were still within the posted operating hours of the garage, but the attendants had abandoned it and the credit card payment machine said it was out of order. Bull called the phone number on one of the signs and we had to wait for an attendant. I unsuccessfully argued for them to waive the $7 parking fee. It was worth a try, but I gave up before I got to my "unlawful detention" angle. Seven dollars is not worth it.

Ugh.. didn't know you got trapped in the garage. Hope you didn't have to wait too long. Here is a link to the menu. http://www.menupix.com/boston/menu.php?id=87

We had a great time. Thanks for coming up north.

Whoops, that was actually me.

I just tried to look up the drinks menu at the B Side website and it's dead. I suspect they've closed, which is also why they were so crowded the night we went--everyone was getting their last glimpse of the place.

I'm very sad. Best. Drink. Menu. Ever.

Ugh! The drink I described isn't on that menu. The website was actually down before we went.

I tried mixing it myself last night, but substituted Limonata for the lemon and sugar. it was good, but it triggered an acid attack.

i have to either lay off the politics or the alcohol. :(

Oh wow, I'd almost forgotten about our unlawful detainment. Could it be that I have "buried it" in an unknown place? Were we waterboarded?

Given that alcohol in moderation will relax you, improve circulation, and generally make you feel good and that politics in moderation will, at best, give you a greasy feeling in your esophagus and bowel, you know what I'd cut down on.

Hey, my blog comments are back!

James, keep drinking and, when necessary, pop a Pepcid.

Yay, so like I was trying to say yesterday, some twitter buddy of mine gave me this recipe that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, but some of you might like these ingredients better:

"Penicillin" (the name of the drink, not an ingredient:

Scotch
Peated scotch
Lemon
Honey
Ginger

I like all of the ingredients, however, the drink itself sounds disgusting...and blasphemous. Scotch (at least good scotch) is meant to be had neat, with just a little water (or ice if you must). Blends can be used for a few cocktails but if you're calling for "peated" scotch I assume you're looking for a heavily peated single malt like Laphroaig or Lagavullin. I ain't mixin' no $60+ a bottle scotch with lemon, honey and ginger.
